Bob Walser is an educator, scholar and musician. Born and raised in the Twin Cities, he began extensive work in schools while in charge of music programs for Mystic Seaport Museum in Mystic Connecticut (1979-1985). After returning to Minnesota he expanded his work in schools both locally and around the US, earned a masters degree and taught music teachers at the University of St. Thomas. Bob examined teaching music across cultural difference including fieldwork in Uganda for his doctoral research and earned his PhD from the University of London, School of Oriental and African Studies in 2001.

In addition to his work in music and education Bob has served on the boards of the Cedar Cultural Center and Tapestry Folk Dance Center.

Bob is married to Julie Young who teaches 1st grade at Kenwood Elementary School. Julie and Bob have twin sons who entered Minneapolis Public Schools in 1st grade and are now high school seniors at Southwest High School and Perpich Center for Arts Education.
